Colorado is no longer one of the top states people are moving to, according to data from U-Haul.
Colorado fell from the top 10 in 2023 to the bottom 10 of the states people moved to last year, according to U-Haul’s Growth Index.
Every year, U-Haul calculates the U-Haul Growth Index based on one-way U-Haul equipment rentals. Last year’s rankings were based on more than 2.5 million one-way U-Haul truck rentals.
Colorado ranked No. 9 in 2023 but fell to No. 40 last year.
Southern states continued to have the largest numbers of one-way U-Haul customers in 2024, with South Carolina topping the list for the first time. Texas, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee round out the top five growth states.
In 2024, people moved out of states across the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast — and particularly California, which remained in the bottom spot for the second year in a row, according to U-Haul.
