Volodymyr Demchuk, Deputy Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, met with Moon Jae-young, Senior Executive Vice President of HD Hyundai Construction Equipment Division, to discuss the provision of equipment for humanitarian demining in Ukraine by the Korean government.
During the meeting, Demchuk emphasized that the SES units continue to carry out risky tasks to protect civilians and territories, including eliminating the consequences of missile and air attacks, extinguishing fires and rescue operations. Particular attention is focused on humanitarian demining of the areas liberated from the occupiers to ensure the safety of the population and restore living space.
SES sappers carry out large-scale humanitarian demining of de-occupied territories from explosive devices – said Volodymyr Demchuk.
According to him, since the beginning of the conflict, sappers have defused more than 475,000 explosive devices and surveyed more than 1,200 square kilometers of territory. However, the need for modern machinery and equipment is only growing.
Under these circumstances, and taking into account the assistance already received, the SESU is in dire need of modern machinery and equipment, including mechanized demining machines– emphasized Volodymyr Demchuk.
Representatives of HD Hyundai Construction Equipment expressed their readiness to provide technical assistance to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine under the intergovernmental agreement between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea signed last September.
Earlier, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment provided new excavators that are used for debris removal and other rescue operations.
